ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF COUNTRY

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and Cultural Leaders of the land and waterways our Creekulum takes place, the Wurundjeri people of the Woi Wurrung Nation. We honour their continued culture and care to land and waters. We pay our deep respects to all Wurundjeri and First Nations Elders past, present, future and emerging. We acknowledge sovereignty has never been ceded.

Creekulum is a place-based pedagogy that aims to connect Moreland Primary School with the Merri creek (and the Melbourne waterways system) through a series of Wurundjeri knowledge, Art and Science of sustainability residencies. Funded by the Victorian Government through a successful Pick My Project grant.

Creekulum was developed by Dr. Sarita Gálvez in collaboration with Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, Young people and Teachers from Moreland Primary School, Scale Free Network, Dr. Angela Foley from Merri Creek Management Committee and East Coburg Community House with the participation of Slow Art Collective, Adrienne Kneebone and Meg Petrie.

Thank you to all the teachers, students, carers, helpers and volunteers who participated and worked together in such a spirit of openness and discovery to make the Merri Merri project a success this year!

The Merri Merri project connected children with their local environment through art, Indigenous knowledge, history and science and was only possible with the support of the entire community. Many people contributed to its success, but in particular we'd like to acknowledge the work of program coordinator Sarita and the project team, Wurundjeri elders Uncle Bill and Uncle Dave and the Wurundjeri Tribe Land Council, Angela and the team at Merri Creek Management Committee, Briony & Gregory at Scale Free Network, Slow Art Collective, East Coburg Community House...and you!

Naya the moth of the Rain Book launch  

Thanks to all who came along to our kids' Book Launch at Coburg Library this week. The captivating performance depicting the short but eventful life of a moth on Merri Merri was a huge hit with those in attendance - and we sold 38 books!

Here's what some of our kids had to say:

"This is a beautiful story about the transformation of a grub into a rain moth" - Yuna, Grade 1.
"This is a very nice and informative book about transformation. It's weird how the grub turned into a moth!" - Marlo, Grade 2
